What is your PIA password?

Your PIA password is the one that you use to log into the Client Control Panel and the VPN application. It is also used for any OpenVPN-based connection type, such as manual configuration or third-party apps. Your PIA password is different from your email password, which is used to access your account information and billing details.

Your PIA password is generated automatically when you sign up for the service and it remains the same for the duration of your account. It consists of a letter "p" followed by seven digits, such as p1234567. You can find your PIA password in the welcome email that you received after your purchase, or in the Client Control Panel under "My Account".

How to change your PIA password?

If you want to change your PIA password, you can do so in the Client Control Panel. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Log into the [Client Control Panel] using your email and email password.

  • Click on "My Account" and then on "Change Password".

  • Enter your current PIA password and your new desired password. Your new password must be at least eight characters long and contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number, and one special character.

  • Click on "Save Changes" and confirm your new password.

Note that changing your PIA password will log you out of all your devices and you will need to enter your new password to reconnect to the VPN service.

How to reset your PIA password?

If you forget your PIA password, you can reset it using the [reset password form]. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Enter your email address that you used to sign up for PIA.

  • Check your inbox for an email from PIA with a link to reset your password.

  • Click on the link and enter a new password. Your new password must follow the same requirements as mentioned above.

  • Click on "Reset Password" and confirm your new password.

Note that resetting your PIA password will also log you out of all your devices and you will need to enter your new password to reconnect to the VPN service.

Troubleshooting tips

If you encounter any issues with logging into the VPN service or changing or resetting your PIA password, here are some troubleshooting tips that might help:

  • Make sure that you are entering the correct email and email password for the Client Control Panel, and the correct PIA username and PIA password for the VPN application or OpenVPN connection.

  • Check if you have any typos or extra spaces in your email, username, or password. You can use the [show/hide toggle] to see what you are typing.

  • If you are using a third-party app or manual configuration, make sure that you are using the correct server address, port number, protocol, encryption, and authentication settings. You can find these settings in the Client Control Panel under "OpenVPN Configuration Files".

  • If you are using a proxy service, make sure that you have generated a separate proxy username and proxy password in the Client Control Panel under "Proxy Settings". Your proxy username and proxy password are different from your PIA username and PIA password.

  • If you have changed or reset your PIA password recently, make sure that you have updated it on all your devices and connection types.

  • If none of these tips work, you can contact [PIA support] for further assistance.
